SSH (Secure Shell) gives you terminal access to your hosting account — useful for things like WP-CLI, Composer, Git, or a quick look at the logs, without waiting to transfer files over FTP. At DoSieci, SSH access is part of the Business, Performance and Pro packages.
How to enable SSH access in Plesk
- Log in to Plesk and go to your subscription.
- Open the account's hosting settings.
- Find the SSH access section and choose a shell other than disabled (e.g. bash) instead of the default blocked one.
- Save your changes.
The exact location in the menu may vary slightly between Plesk versions — if you can't find it, get in touch with us.
How to connect
From a terminal on macOS or Linux, connect with this command:
ssh nazwa_uzytkownika@twojadomena.pl -p [PORT] |
You'll find the SSH port number in the same place in Plesk as the access settings — on shared hosting it's usually different from the default port 22, for security reasons. On Windows, connect the same way through PuTTY or the SSH client built into newer versions of the system. Enter your hosting account password, or your SSH key if you've added one beforehand.
Important limitations on shared hosting
Access runs inside an isolated environment (CageFS) — you only see your own account's files, you don't have access to other accounts or to the operating system level, and you don't have sudo/root privileges either. This is a deliberate safeguard of shared hosting, not a configuration mistake.
What's safe to use SSH for
- WP-CLI —
wp core update,wp plugin list, and other WordPress management commands - Composer — installing PHP dependencies without uploading
vendor/over FTP - Git — deploying directly from a repository
- a quick look at error logs and unpacking a large archive without going through FTP
Don't save passwords in scripts, and don't leave a session open on a shared computer.
