Guide: How to Change the Password for an Email Account
Changing the password in Plesk
You set the new password for a specific mail account. It should be long, unique, and different from your Client panel password. Once you save the change, Webmail and every mail client will require the new password.
If the mailbox is set up on your phone, computer, and any additional apps, update the details on every device. An old password saved in one app can trigger a series of failed attempts and a temporary lockout.
- change the password only for the correct mailbox
- update every device
- check that sending and receiving still work
- never send your password in a message
When to change your password immediately
Do this after a suspicious login, a message sent without your knowledge, a password that's been exposed, or a device infection. Changing the password alone may not be enough — check forwarding rules, filters, sent messages, and the devices that have access to the account.
If the mailbox was sending spam, contact our support team. We need to identify the source of the problem and check whether the account has been suspended.
A secure password for business email
Email on your domain is one of the most frequently attacked parts of hosting, so the password should be long, unique, and not reused on other services. After changing the password, you also need to update it on your phone, in Outlook, Thunderbird, or any other mail client.
If the mailbox was used to send spam or to log in to control panels, it's also worth checking the user's devices, mail filters, and forwarding settings.
